Police investigating stabbing of man, 77, in Silver Spring 

August altercation occurred outside Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center

Montgomery County detectives are investigating the Aug. 29 stabbing of a 77-year-old man in downtown Silver Spring, according to police officials.  

Detectives have determined that at roughly 2:20 a.m. that day, an unknown male suspect argued with a 77-year-old man over property outside the entrance of the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center at 7995 Georgia Ave., police said Tuesday in a statement.  The argument escalated and the suspect pulled out a folding knife and stabbed the man in the forehead before leaving the scene.  

Police released surveillance footage on Tuesday, depicting parts of the altercation and the stabbing. According to police, the victim was in a motorized wheelchair. In the video, the suspect appears to reach for something in the victim’s wheelchair basket several times during the altercation. Then the victim appears to throw something on the steps and point to it before the suspect stabs him.

The man was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to the statement. A review of security footage at the location resulted in obtaining a description of the suspect, police said.
