Pitango Gelato & Coffee in downtown Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle has closed after more than four years of operation, according to a letter taped to the shop’s front entrance.
According to the letter, the shop at 4901 Fairmont Ave. closed Friday because its lease had ended.
“To our loyal Bethesda fans, we thank you for many wonderful years. We will miss you all so much,” the letter said.
Pitango opened its Bethesda location in June 2020 and sold more than 20 flavors of gelato as well as baked goods and coffee drinks. Gelato was made fresh at the shop each day, according to the shop’s website. Owner Noah Dan of Potomac told MoCo360 in December 2019 that he had looked for a Bethesda location for the business for about 12 years.
The gelato chain has seven other locations in the region, including three in Washington, D.C.; two in Baltimore; and two in Northern Virginia. As of Monday afternoon, the Bethesda location was still listed on the chain’s website.
