Billionaire, philanthropist and Bethesda resident David Rubenstein pledged to gift $10 million to the Smithsonian’s Campaign for Our Shared Future to support the National Zoo’s efforts to fund its giant panda conservation program. The National Zoo has a $25 million goal for the program. [WTOP]

State police warn of blackmail email scams

Maryland State Police are warning the public about a blackmail scam on Gmail in which scammers are asking victims for large sums of Bitcoins in order to prevent their internet search history from being shared with their phone contacts. Police recommend not clicking on the emails and contacting local police or the FBI. [NBC4]

Man robbed while using ATM at 7-Eleven convenience store

Montgomery County police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a customer using an ATM at a 7-Eleven along Rockville Pike on Sept. 3. According to police, the man assaulted the customer and ran away with his money. Police have released surveillance camera footage of the incident. [WUSA 9]
