Montgomery County detectives are investigating a burglary Monday at a Germantown Giant Food store in which three suspects allegedly drove a stolen vehicle into the store’s entrance and attempted to steal from an ATM machine, according to a police statement.

At roughly 4:28 a.m. Monday, county police responded to the Giant Food store in the 18300 block of Leaman Farm Road for a report of a commercial burglary, police said Wednesday in the statement. An investigation determined that three suspects forced entry into the store by driving a green Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck in reverse into the main store entrance, causing significant damage.

According to the statement, the suspects then got out of the Dodge and attempted to open an ATM machine. Failing in that attempt, the suspects then drove the pickup truck into the store and struck the ATM machine several times in another unsuccessful attempt to open it.

The suspects then drove away, without taking money from the ATM or store property, but ended up leaving the pickup truck in the store parking lot when it became disabled, according to the statement.

Police obtained the description of the vehicle through review of surveillance footage and determined the pickup truck had been stolen in Germantown.

The department is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information regarding the suspects can visit www.crimesolversmcmd.org.
