Prince George’s County police are investigating the death of a Montgomery County man who was found shot to death Saturday close to the border of the two counties, according to authorities.
Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 9200 block of New Hampshire Avenue about 4 p.m., according to a statement Monday from the Prince George’s police department. Officers found Carlos Alberto Ortiz, 35, of Silver Spring, in a wooded area suffering from gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead on scene, the statement said.
Though the area is close to the border of the two counties, a Prince George’s County police public information officer said Ortiz was found in Prince George’s County.
A spokesperson for Montgomery County police said Prince George’s County police are in charge of the case.
Prince George’s County police said they are working to determine a motive and identify any suspects involved in the shooting. The department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.
