A firefighter was struck and injured by a passing vehicle early Friday while at the scene of a collision on the inner loop of the Beltway near Exit 29 in Silver Spring, according to authorities.
The firefighter was transported to a local trauma center following the incident, which occurred around 3 a.m. between Colesville Road and University Boulevard, Montgomery Country Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesman Pete Piringer wrote on social media.
The passing vehicle also struck a MCFRS firetruck and several Maryland state police cruisers, Piringer said. No state troopers or other firefighters were injured.
Some inner loops lanes of the highway were blocked, but all lanes had reopened by about 4:45 a.m., according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.
