Clarksburg teen charged with attempted murder in connection to March shooting

County police arrested suspect Friday after obtaining warrant

A 16-year-old Clarksburg boy has been charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder in connection to a March 13 shooting in Germantown, Montgomery County police said Wednesday in a statement.

The teen was also charged Friday with first-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent felony, possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a loaded handgun, underage possession of a firearm, and theft-related charges, according to the police statement.

The teen is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, police said. MoCo360 generally does not name juveniles who have been charged with crimes.

Court records and attorney information for the teen were not immediately available Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the shooting occurred at about 3 p.m. March 13 in the 19300 block of Archdale Road in Germantown. The teen allegedly arrived at the location in a stolen Hyundai vehicle, police said.

While at the location, the teen allegedly chased a 15-year-old boy after he got off a school bus, according to police.

During the chase, the teen allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot at the younger boy, police said. Afterward, the teen left the scene. The boy was not injured.

Responding officers found two shell casings nearby at Trophy Court and Archdale Road, which is a block away from Fox Chapel Elementary School, according to police.

Officers obtained a warrant and arrested the teen Friday on the 13300 block of Copper Ridge Road in Germantown, according to the statement. Officers also “recovered a loaded handgun the teen had tossed prior to his arrest,” police said. The handgun reportedly had been stolen in Clinton, Maryland, though police did not specify where.

Police did not say how the teen was identified as the suspect in the March shooting.
