At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, the police department’s Emergency Communications Center received a call for a suspicious situation in the 105000 block of Westlake Drive, according to the statement. About 20 minutes later, the center received another call for a domestic-related situation at the same location.

According to police transmissions, a caller reported hearing “a neighbor” scream for help.  Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews also were dispatched to the scene.

One officer responding to the scene reported a man at the scene didn’t comply with commands when officers arrived, closed the apartment door and police didn’t know if he was armed, according to radio transmissions.

Officers who entered the apartment found Barnett dead at the scene.

According to the police, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
