Park officials warn about harmful algae in two Montgomery County lakes

High levels of blue-green algae were found in Lake Needwood and Lake Frank in Rockville, and visitors of the lake are being asked to avoid contact with the water. Officials said the algae, when grown in large amounts, produces toxins that can be harmful to people and animals. [DC News Now]

County environmental protection department accepting proposals for grant program

The Clean Water Montgomery Grant program, offered by the county’s Department of Environmental Protection in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, is accepting proposals for community-driven projects aimed at improving water quality. [Montgomery Community Media]

New Gaithersburg park nears completion
