Montgomery County police have charged a 17-year-old with attempted murder and other charges in connection with a shooting that occurred during an attempted vehicle theft on Feb. 2 in Silver Spring, according to authorities.
The suspect was charged Friday with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said Thursday in a statement.
According to police, an investigation found that a man and his 17-year-old son were moving property from one vehicle to another in the 8100 block of Hartford Avenue in Silver Spring on Feb. 2 when four suspects got out of a Honda Civic and approached them. Police did not say what time of day the incident occurred.
The armed suspects attempted to steal the man’s vehicle, according to the statement. A fight occurred between the suspects and the man and his son, leading to the man being shot in the head and abdomen. The suspects then left in the Honda.
The man was treated and released from an area hospital, police said.
During the investigation, detectives identified the 17-year-old, one of the four in the Honda, as one of the suspects involved in the shooting.
The suspect, who was held on unrelated charges in a Prince George’s County detention center, was transported Friday to the Montgomery County Processing Unit in Rockville, where he was served with the arrest warrant, police said. He is being held without bond.
