Flood watch issued for northwest Montgomery County

Hazardous weather potential in central and southeast county

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the northwest portion of Montgomery County near the Potomac River as of 11:49 a.m. Thursday, as rain moves into the area from remnants of Hurricane Debby.

Residents should stay alert for potential flooding and monitor the levels of the river if they live close to it or have business there, according to the National Weather Service. An update on any flooding conditions will be posted at 8 p.m.

A “Hazardous Weather Outlook” has also been issued by the National Weather Service for the central and southeast parts of the county as of 5:36 a.m. Thursday.

Isolated and scattered instances of flooding are possible through Thursday night, especially in instances of stronger thunderstorms that linger over a specific area, according to the National Weather Service.
