Firefighters rescued one person and helped evacuate another Thursday morning from a fire in a Gaithersburg home, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer.

MCFRS crews responded at about 9:30 a.m. to a report of a fire in a two-story, single-family home at 18900 Blue Heron Lane, Piringer wrote on social media.

Responding firefighters reported “fire & heavy smoke showing from [the] sunroom, reporting 1 person possibly trapped in basement & another rescued,” Piringer wrote.

At about 10 a.m., he said the fire had been extinguished and MCFRS crews were evaluating two patients, one who was rescued and the other who was assisted out, he said.

The fire appeared to have started in the “sunroom/backporch” of the home, he said. Piringer did not say what caused the fire.
