Montgomery County detectives are investigating three collisions Saturday that took the lives of three people, including a motorcyclist, and injured three others, according to police.
On Sunday, police identified Yanique Tyshay Jones, 25, of Rockville as the woman who died in a two-vehicle collision that also injured another person early Saturday in Montgomery Village, according to a statement.
Around 2:15 a.m., officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to a report of a collision on Goshen Road near Rock Elm Way, the statement said.
Detectives have determined that a blue 2019 Kia Stinger was traveling northbound on Goshen Road when “it collided with a white 2021 Hyundai Venue” driven by Jones that was traveling southbound on Goshen Road near Rock Elm Way, according to police.
MCFRS crews extricated Jones from the Hyundai and transported her to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The Kia’s driver suffered “serious but non-life-threatening injuries” and was transported to a local hospital, according to the statement.
On Saturday afternoon, a 45-year-old Germantown man died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a combine harvester in Dickerson, police said in a statement Saturday night.
Officers and MCFRS crews responded shortly before 2 p.m. to a report of a collision in the 24800 block of Old Hundred Road, according to the statement.
Motorcyclist Ian Capps was travelling southbound on the road on a brown 2018 Indian Scout “when, for reasons that are still under investigation,” he collided with a John Deere Combine harvester that was traveling northbound on the road, police said Monday in a statement.
Capps was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the farm machinery remained at the scene.
In the third incident, another Germantown man died and two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries Saturday night in a two-vehicle collision in Gaithersburg, according to police.
Gaithersburg police officers and MCFRS crews responded shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday to a collision involving a black 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck and a black 2016 Nissan Altima on North Frederick Avenue near Travis Avenue in Gaithersburg, according to county police.
Detectives have determined the pick-up truck was traveling northbound on North Frederick Avenue when it collided with a black 2016 Nissan Altima also traveling northbound on the road.
Isacc Akomanyi, who was driving the Nissan, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said Sunday in a statement. A passenger in the Nissan and the pick-up truck driver received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
Police said the identity of the deceased man would be released following proper notification of next of kin.
