A Darnestown home was rendered unsafe to occupy after a lightning strike sparked a fire during Monday evening’s thunderstorm, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

Around 5:18 p.m., 60 firefighters responded to a report of a fire caused by lightning at a home in the 14800 block of Braemar Crescent Drive, according to Monday’s dispatch reports and a social media post by MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer Tuesday morning.

While no injuries were reported, a family of four adults was displaced and the house was significantly damaged, Piringer said.

Video from the scene posted by Piringer shows smoke billowing from an attic vent of the a two-story Colonial-style home as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
