Thirteen passengers transported to local hospitals after a Ride On bus collided with a traffic light pole Monday evening in Silver Spring, according to authorities.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded about 5:30 p.m. to a report of collision at Piney Branch and Devon roads, spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media Monday.
Acting MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos told MoCo360 Tuesday that one woman was transported to an area trauma hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and 12 other passengers were transported to a “non-traumatic hospital,” also with non-life-threatening injuries.
Eleven adults and one child were transported to the non-traumatic hospitals, Pazos said. Five ambulances were used to transport those individuals.
The bus driver was not injured, according to Pazos.
Pazos said a mobile ambulance bus was deployed to the scene Monday but was not used. He said the bus was requested to provide care for a larger number of people, if needed, as well as to help get people out of the heat.
The crash, which took place during evening rush hour, caused some traffic lanes to be blocked, according to Piringer.
No information was provided on what caused the collision.
