A Rockville family of six was forced to jump from a deck to escape a fire in their home early Monday, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
MCFRS crews responded shortly before 1 a.m. to a report of a house fire in the 900 block of North Stonestreet Avenue, spokesperson David Pazos wrote on social media.
“Crews found fire on the outside of the home, blocking the exit for a family and forcing them to jump from their deck,” Pazos said.
No one was injured in the blaze at the single-family home, but the six adults were displaced, he said.
In another post at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Pazos said the cause of the fire was “undetermined accidental.” The cost of damage to the home was estimated at about $200,000, with another $50,000 for its contents, he said.
From 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, firefighters will be visiting the block where the fire occurred, going-door-to-door offering to check smoke alarms and talk about fire safety as part of the department’s “After the Fire” initiative, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media.
