Montgomery County detectives are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy found late Friday night in a neighborhood pool in Rockville, police said Saturday in a statement.

According to police, the boy was reported missing at about 11:45 p.m. in a call to the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center.

Rockville City police responded to Elmcroft Court, between King Farm and Redland boulevards, “where the child was found in the neighborhood pool,” the statement said.

The responding officers administered CPR to the child, according to the statement.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews also responded for a “possible drowning,” spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media. MCFRS crews “transported a toddler w/ life-threatening injuries/condition” to a local hospital, he said.

The child was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

No foul play is suspected, police said, and the child’s identity will not be released.

Police did not specify in the statement whether the child was autistic but did note that the department’s Autism/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Outreach Unit reminds residents to call 911 immediately if a loved one should wander.
