Olney’s James Wood is expected to suit up for the Washington Nationals on Monday night in his Major League Baseball debut, the Associated Press reported Monday morning.
The 21-year-old outfielder, who’s playing this season for the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings, could make his major league debut against the New York Mets, the Associated Press reported.
Wood started his pro career with the San Diego Padres organization in 2021 and was dealt to the Nationals in 2022 as part of the blockbuster Juan Soto trade.
Wood was a baseball and basketball standout at St. John’s College High School in Chevy Chase, D.C., before transferring to IMG Academy, a sports prep school in Bradenton, Florida, according to Bethesda Magazine.
