A blaze heavily damaged a Gaithersburg home Friday morning, leaving a family of four displaced and causing about $600,000 in damages, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
MCFRS crews responding about 6 a.m. to a report of a fire in the 8800 block of Cochrane Court found “heavy” fire in the rear of the two-story brick Colonial-style house, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media.
The home’s occupants, two adults and two children, were alerted to the blaze by a smoke alarm and escaped unharmed, Piringer said.
By 6:25 a.m., firefighters had “knocked down” the bulk of the fire on the first and second floors of the home, he said.
According to Piringer, the cause of the fire was “likely electrical in nature.”
He said the fire resulted in about $600,000 in losses, including $450,000 for the home and $150,000 for its contents.
