A Washington, D.C., resident is facing a first-degree murder charge in the 2023 shooting death of a 19-year-old man on a Metrobus in the White Oak neighborhood, according to Montgomery County police.
Trevon Hatcherson-Ross, 22, is also charged with “use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and reckless endangerment-related charges” in the death of Justice T’Ziyan Elliott of Silver Spring, police said in a statement Monday.
He was transferred June 14 from a detention center in the District and is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Boyds, the statement said.
According to police, patrol officers saw a Metrobus pulled over in the 14300 block of Lockwood Drive at about 7:40 p.m. Feb. 17, 2023. The officers stopped to assist and then “discovered that a shooting had occurred inside of the bus,” the statement said.
Officers attempted life-saving measures on Elliott, who was pronounced dead at the scene after the arrival of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews.
According to police, Hutcherson-Ross allegedly boarded the bus and confronted Elliott, who was sitting in the back. Following an altercation where the two exchanged words, the suspect pulled a gun, shot Elliott and fled the scene, the statement said.
No attorney information for Hutcherson-Ross was available Monday morning in court records.
