An adult hiker was injured after falling about 30 feet Wednesday afternoon along the Northwest Branch Trail off Columbia Pike in Silver Spring, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
The hiker suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the fall onto rocks on the banks of Northwest Branch in the area of 10700 Columbia Pike, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media shortly before 4:30 p.m. That area is the address of a parking lot where hikers and walkers often park to access the Northwest Branch trail.
Piringer said MCFRS crews extracted the hiker, who was not identified, using ropes and rigging.
