A Takoma Park resident has been identified as the man killed in a June 3 hit-and-run collision on University Boulevard East, according to Montgomery County police.
Candido Noe Rojas Rojas, 42, was pronounced dead at a local hospital from injuries suffered when he was struck by a vehicle, police said in a statement.
According to police, Takoma Park officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded shortly after 1 a.m. June 3 to a report of “a man lying in the roadway with head injuries” in the area of the 1100 block of University Boulevard East near Anne Street. The location is near the Mega Mart Latino Supermarket University Boulevard East.
Rojas was transported to a local hospital after officers found him lying in the eastbound lanes of the road. An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C., determined that his injuries were “likely caused by a vehicle,” the statement said.
Detectives have determined that Rojas was struck by a westbound vehicle that then “fled the scene on Lebanon Street into Prince George’s County,” the statement said.
The vehicle that allegedly struck Rojas is believed to be a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado 1500 of the model years 2014-2017, possibly with damage minor damage on the left side, according to police.
Detectives said an investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the collision is asked to call 240-773-6620 or email CRUnit@montgomerycountymd.gov.
