A man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding crashed early Wednesday in the area of Columbia Pike and Fairland Road in Calverton, according to Montgomery County police.
Officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to the report of a single-vehicle collision shortly before 1:30 a.m., police said in a statement Wednesday.
Investigators have preliminarily determined that “for reasons unknown at this time, the driver lost control and ejected from the motorcycle,” the statement said.
The man on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The southbound lanes of Columbia Pike were closed from Musgrove Road to Briggs Chaney Road and Fairland Road was closed east of Old Columbia Pike while police investigated the crash. The lanes were reopened later Wednesday morning.
The fatal collision marks the second in less than a week involving a motorcycle. Early Saturday, another man was killed when he was ejected from the motorcycle he was riding after it struck a curb and a traffic light pole in White Oak, according to police.
Police are investigating Wednesday morning’s collision and will release more information when it becomes available, including the name of the motorcyclist following proper notification of next of kin, the statement said.
