A 3-year-old child suffered from a possible “self-inflicted gunshot wound” Tuesday afternoon in a Montgomery Village apartment, according to Montgomery County police spokesperson Shiera Goff.

The child was transported to Children’s National Hospital before 12:30 p.m., according to radio transmissions.

“We found a child who was injured to the hand and leg, undetermined means,” said police Commander Eric Stancliff, who was at the scene.

A 1-year-old child and two teens were also in the home, but did not appear to be injured, the transmissions said.

“Three adults in the home have been detained,” Goff said in an email, noting the investigation is ongoing.

Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to an apartment in the 18600 block of Walkers Choice Road for a report of a shooting shortly after noon, according to radio transmissions.

As officers arrived on the scene, crossfire was reported over the radio.  “Crossfire out the window!” one officer yelled.

“We got one at gun point coming out the front window!” an officer yelled, according to the radio transmissions.

Officers soon reported that all occupants of the home had been taken into custody.
