Police are investigating the death of a man who was shot Sunday morning in Gaithersburg, according to authorities.
Gaithersburg police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded about 5:11 a.m. to the report of a shooting in the 18700 block of North Frederick Avenue, Montgomery County police said in a statement Sunday afternoon.
Responding officers found a man with “an apparent gunshot wound,” the statement said. The man was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Police said the man’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
More information is expected to be released once it is available, including the name of the man following proper notification of next of kin, police said.
