Two men fatally shot near downtown Silver Spring park

No suspects in custody, police say

Police are investigating the fatal shootings of two men Sunday night near a park in downtown Silver Spring.

Around 7 p.m., Montgomery County and Maryland-National Capital Park Police officers found two 20-year-old men dead at the scene upon responding to a report of a shooting in the 500 block of Thayer Avenue, according to a statement from county police.

The scene is near Nolte Local Park, the site of soccer, softball and ultimate frisbee games on weekends.

Police said no suspects are in custody. An investigation is ongoing, the statement said.

The names of the two men were not released. More information will be released once it is available, the statement said.
