Police charge two brothers in connection with MoCo burglaries

Montgomery County police have arrested and charged two brothers in connection with several burglaries that occurred in the county in March and April.

Alex Dumitru, 23, and Natalian Dumitru, 18, were arrested Thursday at a Catonsville residence and charged with first-degree burglary-related charges in connection with burglaries at two of the properties, police said in a statement.

The brothers were released on a $10,000 unsecured personal bond, the statement said. Alex Dumitru is being represented by a public defender, according to Maryland Judiciary Case Search. A lawyer for Natalian Dumitru is not yet listed on Maryland Judiciary Case Search.

The brothers were charged in connection with burglaries at a residence attached to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the 15000 block of Good Hope Road in Silver Spring and the US Zen Institute in the 19200 block of Liberty Mill Road in Germantown, police said.

Police are also investigating break-ins involving damage and stolen property at a residence in the 2300 block of Spencerville Road, Spencerville; The Noor Center in the 20500 block of Boland Farm Road, Germantown; and a residence attached to the Wat Thai Washington, D.C., in the 13400 block of Layhill Road, Silver Spring.

According to police, Baltimore County police assisted Montgomery County detectives with serving a search and seizure warrant at Natalian Dumitru’s home where both brothers were arrested and “items of evidentiary value” that connected them to the US Zen Institute and Ahmadiyya Muslim Community burglaries were found, the statement said.

An investigation of the burglaries at the other three locations is continuing, police said.
