Joan Vassos, a Rockville resident, will star as the first leading lady of “The Golden Bachelorette.”
Vassos competed on the first season of “The Golden Bachelor” in 2023. The show is a spin-off of the popular “The Bachelor” dating franchise that featured seniors looking for love.
Though she felt a connection with Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner, Vassos ultimately left the show early to return to her daughter, who had just given birth.
Now the 61-year-old Vassos, who lost her husband of 32 years to pancreatic cancer, gets another chance at love.
Speaking to MoCo360 in the fall, Vassos had hinted that she would be willing to “give it a whirl” if she was contacted about being a Golden Bachelorette.
The Landon School administrator discussed where she would bring a date on a trip to her hometown—maybe a jaunt to the monuments in Washington, D.C., a walk along the Potomac River or to Brooklyn’s Deli. She declared that the Potomac eatery “has a sandwich named ‘The Vassos’ because we have been going there for so long.”
According to an ABC press release, Vassos “envisions a future filled with shared moments by the beach and cherished time with family.”
“I went [on the show] wanting to find love; I left there craving love,” Vassos told MoCo360. “I’m working hard to find it, and I’m not giving up.”
“The Golden Bachelorette” will air on ABC Wednesday nights this fall.
