Under the hours of operation on its website, the eatery at 15700 Shady Grove Road listed “Closed” for every day of the week. A call to the phone number listed on the website went unanswered Monday afternoon. Food could not be ordered online and curbside pickup and delivery were listed as “Not Available.”

The same information was included on the website for the Red Lobster location at 8533 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring. A sign posted on the door at the restaurant said, “We apologize to our loyal customers. We will be closing our doors. You will be missed.”

The company, based in Orlando, Florida, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment about the Gaithersburg closure and the status of the Silver Spring location.

Monday’s abrupt closures were among a number of closures around the country, according to published reports. Bankruptcy rumors have been swirling around the company in recent weeks.

Red Lobster operates locations in more than 40 states, according to the company’s website.
