Montgomery County police have identified Kiara Cheeks, 35, as the woman who died following a two-vehicle collision Wednesday at the intersection of Briggs Chaney Road and an exit ramp for the Intercounty Connecter in Silver Spring.
A police statement released Monday did not say where Cheeks lived.
According to the statement, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel and police officers responded at approximately 12:44 a.m. to a report of a collision at the intersection of Briggs Chaney Road and the Intercounty Connector, also known at state Route 200.
The statement said Cheeks was traveling eastbound on Briggs Chaney Road as a passenger in a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 when it was struck by a 2008 Honda Accord exiting the Intercounty Connector, the statement said.
Cheeks was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were initially considered non-life-threatening. However, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital after succumbing to her injuries, the statement said.
According to police, the investigation into the collision is active and ongoing. The statement did not say whether charges will be filed in the incident.
