Maryland State Police officers are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning that led to the death of a Frederick man and the closure of I-270 at exit 22 for Route 109 near Hyattstown.
Police have identified Rodney Lee Gibson, 54, of Frederick as the driver who was killed in the collision. Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, according to a state police statement.
As of 2:30 p.m., all northbound lanes on I-270 had reopened, according to the state transportation department.
Police responded to a report of a collision at about 10:10 a.m. According to police, a dump truck driven by Gibson and a 2019 Ford Transit van collided. The dump truck then struck a bridge abutment and overturned into a ravine, state police said.
Shortly before 11 a.m., local and state emergency officials posted on social media that all southbound and northbound lanes of I-270 and the exit off-ramp were closed.
