Montgomery County police have identified Earl William Smith, 43, of Clinton as the man who was struck and killed Wednesday in a collision near the intersection of Muncaster Mill and Norbeck roads in Rockville.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and police responded at about 5:37 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck at Muncaster Mill Road near Norbeck Road, according to a police statement.
Police investigators have determined that Clinton was driving a 2012 Ford transit T350 when he collided with a sign, “causing the van to become disabled in the median,” the statement said.
Smith was struck by a 2007 Black BMW 328i sedan traveling eastbound on Muncaster Mill Road after he left his vehicle for unknown reasons, police said. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the BMW remained at the scene. Police did not say whether the driver would face charges related to the collision.
Police closed westbound Norbeck Road at Georgia Avenue while officers investigated the collision.
