Mui, a modern Japanese-inspired restaurant owned by IVEA Restaurant Group, is scheduled to open this winter in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose neighborhood, Federal Realty Investment Trust announced Thursday.

Federal Realty, which owns Pike & Rose, said in a statement that the 8,505-square-foot restaurant will open at 967 Rose Ave. The site is the former home of The Block Foodhall, which closed in late April after weeks of speculation.

Federal Realty Senior Vice President Stuart Biel welcomed Mui to the 24-acre upscale neighborhood of residents, restaurants, stores and entertainment venues.

“Our highly amenitized neighborhood is a popular destination for foodies and shoppers from North Bethesda and the greater community, and we are thrilled to share this new dining experience,” he said in the statement.

The restaurant will offer non-traditional Japanese dishes as well as traditional kaiseki, sushi, omakase from Japan and seafood and meat cooked on a Robata grill, the announcement said. Translated as “I leave it up to you,” omakase features interaction between the chef and diners with the chef presenting curated sushi specialties.

Mui also will offer a drinks menu featuring agave, scotch and sake as well as champagne, wine and cocktails.

“With its lively environment, Pike & Rose is the perfect setting for Mui’s first restaurant location,” Edward Wong of Mui said in the annoucement.
