Bethesda’s Katie Ledecky awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom

Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky, who grew up in Bethesda, was one of 19 people who were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Friday during a ceremony at the White House.

The award was established 61 years ago by President John F. Kennedy to “recognize any person who’s made an especially meritorious contribution to the security and national interest of the United States or world peace or other significant public and private endeavors,” President Joe Biden said during the ceremony.
