A Silver Spring man was convicted Friday in the February 2023 murder of his wife in their apartment, according to authorities.

A Montgomery County Circuit Court jury found Dennis Hinnant Jr., 30, guilty of second-degree murder for the death of his wife, 28-year-old Taresha Pendarvis, according to a press release from the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

He faces up to 40 years in prison during his sentencing scheduled for July 18.

According to charging documents, Hinnant walked into the Rockville City police station on Feb. 1, 2023, holding a baby, and said he wanted to turn himself in. He provided the couple’s address and said he wanted to talk to a detective about “a homicide that occurred in Silver Spring,” according to charging documents.

Based on the information provided by Hinnant, officers went to an apartment at 8820 Lanier Drive, where they found Pendarvis dead in the bathtub. She had been stabbed multiple times and strangled with a belt, documents state.

Police then arrested Hinnant. During an interview with detectives, he said he and Pendarvis had been arguing about potentially getting divorced before he killed her.

The baby was not harmed and was removed from Hinnant’s custody.

“We remain dedicated to aggressively prosecuting domestic violence in any form. The defendant was appropriately found guilty of murder, and we will be seeking the maximum penalty under the law,” Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said in the  release.
