Montgomery County police on Monday identified George Toman, 65, of Poolesville as the man who died after his sports utility vehicle crashed into a tree last week at the intersection of River and Seneca roads in Darnestown.
Responding officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews found Toman inside an orange 2011 Honda Element at about 12:20 a.m. Friday after his family called 911, the statement said. When Toman did not return home, his family tracked his phone’s location and then called authorities.
Toman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the statement.
According to the police investigation, Toman was travelling northbound on River Road and approaching a “T” intersection with Seneca Road when his vehicle did not stop at the stop sign. The Honda instead crossed Seneca Road and collided with a tree off the roadway, the statement said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information to contact detectives at 240-773-6620.
