WTOP tallies more than 300 streetlight outages along the Capital Beltway

WTOP tallied up at least 300 streetlight outages along the Beltway in Maryland after driving on the Outer Loop from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the American Legion Bridge on April 15. According to Derek Gunn, a transportation engineer for the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, the more than 60-year-old infrastructure around the highway is aging and rodents, vermin and environmental issues impact the lighting system. County Inspector General alleges police department misused grant funds

Montgomery County Inspector General Megan Davey Limarzi announced Thursday that the county police department misused more than $390,000 in grant funds. The county received the funds from Police Accountability Community and Transparency (PACT) grants in 2023 to acquire body-worn camera systems and software.

The Office of the Inspector General has reported its findings to the County’s Chief Administrative Officer and the Maryland Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy. [Montgomery Community Media]
