Democratic candidate April McClain Delaney has brought in nearly $840,000 in the most recent fundraising quarter, bringing her to a total of $1,375,859 across her entire campaign cycle, and is leading all candidates for the Maryland 6th District Congressional race, according to the latest campaign finance reports from the Federal Election Commission.
The most recent reports, which were due midnight on Monday, cover the campaign financing period that started Jan. 1 and ended March 31, with weeks to go before the May 14 primary.
McClain Delaney’s campaign reported $539,272 in expenditures for the quarter. She currently has $782,141 cash on hand. Her report has been the subject of scrutiny from opponent Del. Joe Vogel’s (D-Dist. 17) campaign, who criticized her use of a $550,000 loan she made to her campaign in a press release Monday.
“McClain Delaney thinks she can buy her way to victory, but the voters in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District see right through her tactics,” the release said.
The McClain Delaney campaign responded to the Vogel campaign’s criticism in an email to MoCo360 Tuesday night.
“Joe Vogel and his dark money are running an old, tired, negative campaign,” wrote Nick London, campaign manager. “[McClain Delaney] has the resources and experience to win in November.”
In this quarter, Vogel followed McClain Delaney in fundraising totals, reporting that he raised $231,034 and recorded $191,628 in expenditures. His election cycle fundraising total is $610,790. He has $234,611 cash on hand.
Vogel was the first to enter the race in May 2023 after Rep. David Trone (D-Dist. 6) announced his run for U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin’s (D-Md.) seat. McClain Delaney, an attorney with a telecommunications policy background, announced her campaign in October.
While Trone has not yet backed a successor, McClain Delaney appeared at a fundraising event for Trone’s Senate campaign on Sunday, according to a social media post from her campaign. Both McClain Delaney and her husband, former Democratic Rep. John Delaney – Trone’s predecessor in the Sixth District seat – endorsed Trone’s Senate bid earlier this month, according to a press release from the Trone campaign.
Within the first three months of the year, previous Democratic candidates Geoffrey Grammer and Joel Rubin dropped out of the race, endorsing McClain Delaney.
