Local chefs Edward Reavis and Marcelle Afram will be opening a Shababi Palestinian Smoked Chicken pop-up in Silver Spring next week.
Reavis runs All Set Restaurant & Bar, Money Muscle BBQ and Fryer’s Roadside, all in Silver Spring, and Afram runs Shababi Palestinian Rotisserie Chicken, which offers catering for events in the Washington, D.C., area. The two chefs, who are longtime friends, will be combining their flavors and cooking styles to create unique dishes, according to a statement from spokesperson Charissa Benjamin.
The pop-up menu will include spatchcocked smoked chicken, which “feature Afram’s signature Shababi spice blend on whole and half chickens smoked in Reavis’s 1,000-gallon smokers used for his regional barbecue concept, Money Muscle BBQ,” according to the statement.
Customers can order the Whole Smoked Chicken meal for four to six people for $175 or the Half-Smoked Chicken meal for two to three people for $90. Each meal comes with five sides, including smoked pulled lamb leg, za’atar potato wedges, Aleppo Crisp Cukes (served with chili crisp) and Taboon (a homemade flatbread topped with sumac caramelized onion and garlic spread).
The menu will be available for pick-up and delivery from April 17 to 19 at Fryer’s Roadside at 12830 New Hampshire Ave. and on April 24 and 25 at All Set Restaurant & Bar at 8630 Fenton St. The meals can be ordered online.
On April 27, a chef’s dinner will be held at All Set, which will “serve family-style courses of Afram’s takes on All Set’s seafood-centric menu,” according to the statement. The chefs will be present during the meal, and the menu will include dishes such as octopus and oysters served with Palestinian flavors including apricot-chili, tahini and pine nuts. Tickets can be purchased online for $115.
