A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Wheaton after midnight Monday, Montgomery County police said in a statement.
Around 12:02 a.m., police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to the area of Veirs Mill Road and Monterrey Drive for the report of a pedestrian who had been hit, according to the statement.
Through an investigation, police determined a man was riding his skateboard on Veirs Mills Road, near Monterrey Drive, when he was struck by a white Acura traveling westbound. The driver then fled the area, police said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, who did not identify the man killed in the collision.
The death marks the second pedestrian fatality in three days. On Friday night, a white Acura possibly of a model year between 2009-2012 fatally struck a pedestrian on Randolph Road in Silver Spring and the driver fled the scene.
Montgomery County police spokesperson Casandra Tressler confirmed Monday morning that different cars were involved in the two collisions.
In Monday’s incident, police are on the lookout for an Acura, possibly a 2009 model, with “damage to the front right corner, including a missing portion of the bumper cover and a missing/broken headlight, fog light and parking light,” police said in the statement. “It may also have damage to the windshield and/or window.”
The investigation is ongoing and police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives at crunit@montgomerycountymd.gov or 240-773-6620.
