Takoma Park resident confirmed as U.S. 4th Circuit appeals court judge

On Tuesday the U.S. Senate confirmed Takoma Park resident Nicole Berner as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Berner is also the first openly lesbian judge to join the 4th Circuit, which covers Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. [The Washington Post]

MCPS freshman wins top prize in C-SPAN student documentary contest

Dermott Foley, a ninth grader at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring won first prize in the Eastern states division of the 2024 StudentCam Competition, a documentary video contest run by C-SPAN. Foley claimed a $3,000 prize for his documentary, titled “The Promise of Langley Park: The Purple Line, Climate Change and Reimagining the Future of America’s Suburbs.”

Teen boys arrested for robbing man in Gaithersburg

Two boys, ages 14 and 16, were arrested by Montgomery County police last week for their involvement in an armed robbery in Gaithersburg in January. According to police, when detectives identified and arrested the two boys, the 14-year-old was in possession of two loaded ghost guns. [WUSA 9]
