A fire in Brookeville on Tuesday afternoon destroyed a barn and spread to brush nearby, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Around 3:30 p.m., Piringer posted on social media that there was a barn fire at the 100 block of Haviland Mill Road, off of New Hampshire Avenue, in a non-hydrant area.

Piringer said that the 20-by-40-foot structure mostly contained farm and yard equipment/tools and associated items, was “well involved” and eventually collapsed. Piringer said that the blaze then spread to nearby vegetation and brush.

At 6:05 p.m., Piringer posted on X that the fire had been extinguished and that around 50 MCFRS firefighters responded, along with assistance from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

There was another brush fire on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in the area of Great Seneca Creek and Cabin Branch Creek near Apple Ridge Road in Montgomery Village, and the outdoor fire, along with hot spots, was extinguished by 11:30 p.m., Piringer said.
