Montgomery County police have identified the woman who died in Monday’s collision in Aspen Hill as Maria Perdomo 77, of Silver Spring, according to a Tuesday news release.
According to police, officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded around 2:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a two-car collision at the intersection of Layhill and Bell Pre roads.
Police determined that Perdomo, driving a red 2013 Subaru Outback, was making a left turn from northbound Layhill Road onto westbound Bel Pre Road when the Outback collided with a black 2019 Tesla Model Y traveling southbound on Layhill Road, according to the Tuesday release. The cause of this collision is still under investigation, police said.
At 2:45 p.m. Monday, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer posted on X about the crash, saying that two adults were trapped in their vehicles and needed to be extricated. Piringer said both sustained trauma, one with life-threatening injuries and the other with less severe injuries.
Perdomo was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man driving the Tesla was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The injured driver was not identified.
Police urge anyone with information about the incident to call Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives at 240-773-6620.
