Around 12:19 a.m. Saturday, county officers along with Chevy Chase Village police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to a report of a crash involving a car and a pickup truck in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Quincy Street, county police said in a statement.

According to an investigation, a white 2012 Mercedes SLK convertible and a white 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck were traveling northbound on Connecticut Avenue when they collided for “reasons unknown at this time,” police said. After the collision, the Mercedes overturned while the pickup truck struck a utility pole and several trees.

Cruz was ejected from the truck and later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A woman who was a passenger in the pickup truck and the man who was driving the Mercedes suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals, police said.

Police did not provide the identities of the injured woman and man.
