A man is in critical condition at a local hospital after he was struck by a car in Silver Spring late Sunday night, according to Montgomery County police.

Around 11:58 p.m., officers responded to the area of Cherry Hill Road near Gracefield Road, which is in the Calverton area, for a report of a pedestrian struck, police said Monday in a press release.

Police determined that the man was crossing the road when a black 2018 Chevrolet Impala struck him, according to the release. The driver remained at the scene.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition, police said.

Montgomery County has its Vision Zero plan in place, which allocates resources to help eliminate serious injury and fatal collisions on county roads for vehicle occupants, pedestrians and bicyclists by the end of 2030.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
