A Baltimore man was charged Monday with stealing a car and numerous traffic violations after police stopped to assist him when he pulled over on the side of the Intercounty Connector near New Hampshire Avenue, according to Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police.
At 1:45 p.m. on Monday, a police officer stopped to help Darlyn M. Mejia Trochez, 30, of Baltimore, who was checking one of the tires on the black Honda Accord that he was driving, according to MDTA police.
Officers discovered that the temporary South Carolina vehicle registration “did not belong on the vehicle” and found that the car was previously reported stolen by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in North Carolina, MDTA police said.
Also, Mejia Trochez was wanted by both Montgomery County and Rockville police for numerous traffic violations, according to MDTA police.
He was charged with numerous offenses while driving on Rockville Pike on Nov. 14, 2019, including failure to display a license to uniformed police on demand, driving on the highway without required license and authorization and driving on a revoked license, according to digital court records.
Also, on Jan. 6, 2020, he was charged with similar offences as well as including failing to secure a child under age 8 in a child safety seat and operating a vehicle on the highway with unauthorized window tinting after police stopped him as he drove on Georgia Avenue near the I-495 interchange, digital court records indicate.
He failed to appear in court for both cases, according to digital court records.
MDTA police said Mejia Trochez was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center in Rockville without incident.
Attorney information for Mejia Trochez is not yet available in digital court records.
