Montgomery County police have identified a T-Mobile employee who was stabbed several times at Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg and later died Monday.

Jose Alexander Maldonado, 23, an employee at the mall’s T-Mobile store, died after being stabbed on Monday, police said in a press release Tuesday.

County and Gaithersburg police officers were called to an area near the food court around 11 a.m. Monday, police said in a press release. They found Maldonado with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

In a statement Tuesday, T-Mobile called the stabbing a “tragic and senseless incident that occurred at a dealer location.”

“We have reached out to provide our support to the victim’s family and will continue to provide support to the ongoing investigation,” the company said in the statement.

Police said they are investigating the stabbing as a homicide. As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been made. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or Crimes Solvers of Montgomery County at 866-411-8477. A reward of up to $10,000 is offered for information that leads to the arrest of a homicide suspect.

In November, a man was fatally shot in the parking lot of Lakeforest Mall. Police have not announced any arrests in that case.

City leaders hope to eventually redevelop the mall property into a mixed-use development, passing a master plan last year that outlines the framework.
