Police said in a new release early Tuesday that the pedestrian who was killed was a 70-year-old man from Adelphi. They did not give his name.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was a gray 2014 Toyota Camry and the driver stayed at the scene after the crash, police said.

In the press release, police said the Toyota was going south on New Hampshire Avenue, approaching Elton Road. The pedestrian was crossing southbound New Hampshire Avenue, heading west.

The area where Monday’s crash happened is near the interchange between New Hampshire Avenue and I-495. On Jan. 15, 2021, a hit-and-run driver killed pedestrian Mark. C. Henderson, 66, of Takoma Park, in the same area, police said at the time.
