Heavy rain overnight and into Thursday morning brought flooding to portions of lower Montgomery County near Rock Creek in Chevy Chase and Kensington.

Rock Creek overflowed its banks on Thursday, flooding Beach Drive, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said in a video. Beach Drive was closed west of Kensington Parkway, he said.

Additionally, Sligo Creek Parkway was closed between Maple Avenue and Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring.

Piringer said Fire & Rescue crews rescued one person from their vehicle on Beach Drive just east of Connecticut Avenue. The driver was not injured.

Piringer said he wasn’t aware of flooding in other parts of the county on Thursday. He urged motorists to turn around if they see high water.

A flood warning from the National Weather Service remains in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible until then and could produce as much as a quarter to a half inch of rain, according to the weather service.
