A child was injured after falling down the elevator shaft in a Potomac home on Wednesday, according to a Montgomery County Fire & Rescue official.

The child fell 15 to 20 feet down the shaft in a home in the 11800 block of Centurion Way, near Greenbriar Road, Fire & Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer posted on Twitter. He did not indicate the child’s age.

Fire & Rescue crews removed the child from the shaft.

Piringer wrote that the child was taken to the hospital with injuries considered priority 2, which is the second-most serious on a scale of 1 to 3. The child’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
